Mr. Walter J. Carpenter Sr. passed away Tuesday at the Bluegrass Hospice Care Center in Lexington. He was a life long resident of Bath County, where he was born on September 4, 1932 to the late Timothy Irvin Carpenter and Oddie McGlothin Carpenter. Walter proudly served his country and was a veteran of the Korean War. He had a contagious laugh and enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He was a member of the Salt Lick First Church of God. Walter will be missed dearly by his family and friends.
He is survived by his loving wife of 69 years, Phyllis Proffitt Carpenter; one daughter, Judy Carpenter; daughter in law, Jeni Carpenter; one grandson, Connor Carpenter; one brother, Donald Carpenter (Ethel); one sister, Mayme Miley from Locust Grove, Oklahoma; one sister in law, Yvonne Carpenter; several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Walter J. "Bud" Carpenter Jr.; three brothers, Lester, Carl and James Carpenter; three sisters, Juanita Barger, Nannie Hatton and Eula Barber.
Visitation will be Thursday, September 2 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Richardson Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be Friday, September 3 at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of the Richardson Funeral Home with Reverend Sherman Sparks and Reverend Steve Meadows officiating. Burial will follow in the Carpenter Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Darrell Carpenter, Bob Carpenter, Kenny Barber, Jack Carpenter, Dewayne Carpenter, Keith Carpenter, Dave Barger, and Joe Carpenter.
