Samuel Finch, age 96 of Owingsville, passed away on May 23 at St. Joseph Hospital in Mt. Sterling, surrounded by his loving family and friends. He was born on January 21, 1930 in Bethel, Kentucky to the late Marion Finch and Elizabeth Ensor Finch.
Samuel was a veteran of the United States Air Force, something that he was very proud of. He also worked many years as a bookkeeper for several different businesses. After retiring, he enjoyed being a farmer and tending to his land. Sam was an excellent storyteller. His family and friends enjoyed spending time with him and listening to him share his life experiences. Family was very important to Sam and he cherished every moment he was given with them.
He is survived by one sister, Nancy Finch Fawns; several nieces, nephews and members of the Otis family.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 75 years, Bernetta Otis Finch and one brother, Donald Finch, along with several extended family members.
Visitation will be held on May 28 from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at Richardson Funeral Home.
Funeral service will begin at 1:00 p.m. in the chapel, with Reverend Lowell Rice officiating. Burial will follow in the Owingsville Cemetery, where military rites will be conducted by American Legion.
Active pallbearers will be Billy Ray Fawns, Randy Fawns, Marion Fawns, Phillip Fawns, Tommy Finch and Robbie Finch.
Honorary pallbearers will be J.D. McGlone, Sharon McGlone, Gary Sands, James Sonny Fawns, Jimmy Bradley and Mark Catron.
In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations be made to Owingsville First Church of God in memory of Sam Finch.
