Phyllis E. Carpenter, age 85, of Owingsville, passed away on December 21 at St. Joseph Hospital in Lexington. She was born on August 5, 1936 in Menifee County to the late William Roscoe Proffitt and Lona Donathan Proffitt. Phyllis retired from Jockey after many years of working. She loved to quilt and bake. Everyone always fought over her jam cakes and fired apple pies. She collected doll and dishes and enjoyed working Sudoku puzzles. Phyllis was a member of the Salt Lick First Church of God. She loved to sing and always had a song to sing in church. Phyllis was a loving mother and wonderful friend. She will be missed dearly by all those she leaves behind.
She is survived by one daughter, Judy Carpenter; one daughter in law, Jeni Carpenter; one grandson, Connor Carpenter; one brother in law, Donald Carpenter and his wife, Ethel; two sisters in law, Mamye Miley of Locust Grove, Oklahoma and Yvonne Carpenter of Lexington, Kentucky; one nephew; six nieces; several great nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, Walter Carpenter Sr.; one son, Walter "Bud" Carpenter; one brother, Raymond Proffitt; three sisters, Marie Oakley, Jewell Withrow and Barbara Proffitt.
Visitation will be Tuesday, December 28 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Richardson Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, December 29 at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel at the Richardson Funeral Home with Reverend Sherman Sparks and Reverend Steve Meadows officiating. Burial will follow in the Carpenter Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be David Oakley, Jack Carpenter, Bob Carpenter, Keith Carpenter, Darrell Carpenter, Kenny Barber, Dewayne Carpenter and Joe Carpenter.
