Palmer "Jaybird" Crouch, age 89, passed away December 26, 2020 after an extended illness. He was born on March 11, 1931 in Bath County to the late Curn Crouch and Leonna Davis Crouch. Jaybird was the Bath County Jailer for 24 years until his retirement. He loved serving his community and took pride in his position. Jaybird was the caretaker for the Owingsville Cemetery for 16 years, Longview Cemetery for 5 years and drove a school bus in Bath County for 9 years. He loved to play cards, watch westerns and play pranks on people. Jaybird loved to socialize and have a good chew of tobacco. He loved the ladies at the Bath County Circuit Clerk's office and would visit them often, even after retiring. Jaybird was a member of the Northside Church of God, where he attended every Sunday. Spending time with his family and grandchildren was very important to him. Time with them was something he cherished and looked forward to. He was a kind man with a good heart and would help others as much as he could. Jaybird will be missed by his family, his friends and his community. May we all cherish the memories we have of him and continue to share the stories as he would want us to.
He is survived by his loving wife, Estil Bashford Crouch; two sons, Norman (Dee Dee) Crouch and Larry Russell Crouch; two daughters, Carrie Lynn (Jeff) Routt and Mary Ann (Tommy) Butcher one daughter-in-law Edwina Crouch. Also surviving are ten grandchildren, Sherry Denton, Thomas Butcher Jr., William Keith Crouch, Casey (Amber) Crouch, Whitney McCormick (Will), Kelly Routt, Kaitlyn Crouch, Madison Crouch, Andrew Crouch and Taylor Crouch; eight great grandchildren
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sons, William Crouch and Nelson Ray Crouch; six brothers and three sisters.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, December 29 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Richardson Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, December 30 at 1:00 p.m. at the Richardson Funeral Home with burial following in the Carey Cemetery in Morehead. Serving as pallbearers; Bryson Price, Mike Jones, Phil Copher, Terry Hughes, Dewayne Myers, David Jackson, William Keith Crouch and Thomas Butcher Jr. Honorary pallbearers; Kevin Jamison, Harold Wayne Hunt, Jr. Fawns, Kenny Purvis, Mike Butcher, Rogie Coyle, Willie Vanlandingham, Earl Conyers and Doug Copher.
Reverend Lowell Rice and Reverend Kenny Crouch will be officiating.
Richardson Funeral Home will be caring for all arrangements.
