Nelson Garner, age 73 of Owingsville, passed away on March 24, 2022 at Baptist Health Hospital in Lexington. He was born in Bath County on April 30, 1948 to the late Seigle Nelson Garner and Lucille Stewart Garner. Nelson graduated from Bath County High School and Morehead State University. He was a teacher with the Bath County School Systems for 27 years.
Nelson was active in many things over the years. He was a member of the Bath County Cattleman's Association, Bath County Retired Teacher's Association, Chairman for Housing Authorities Board and a past member of the Bath County Conservation District. Nelson was an avid University of Louisville fan and could hold his own against any UK fans. Farming was his passion. He was a hard worker and strived to do his best. He was a kind man with a good sense of humor. Nelson was an educator, a farmer, a coach, a community leader and a friend to so many. He will be greatly missed by all that knew and loved him. May they continue to share the stories and cherish their time spent with Nelson "Snake" Garner.
He is survived by his best friend and loving wife of almost 50 years, Nancye Everman Garner; one sister, Donna Garner Bailey of Owingsville; one brother, Robert Garner and his wife, Debbie of Mt. Washington, KY; two brothers in law, John Estill Everman and Eddie Goodpaster; several nieces and one nephew.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Mildred Ann Garner and Virginia "Ginny" Garner Goodpaster.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, March 26 from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. at the Richardson Funeral Home.
Funeral service will begin at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of the Richardson Funeral Home with Reverend Sean Bailey and Reverend Gary Boyd officiating. Burial will follow in the Owingsville Cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be Robert Allen Garner, Burnsy Stewart, Anthony Thomas, John Russell Everman, Jamie Everman and Hunter Everman.
Honorary pallbearers will be Hoy "Muff" Miller Jr., Johnny Botts, Jimmy Craig, Barry Fryman, Arlen McNabb, Lance Davis and J.B. Snedegar.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Owingsville Christian Church.
