Matthew Thomas Sorrell, age 36, of Sharpsburg, passed away on Saturday, June 12. He was born in Morehead, Kentucky on June 13, 1984 to Gary and Deb Sorrell. Matt was a 2003 graduate of Nicholas County High School and was a concrete finisher by trade. He loved fishing and playing baseball. Matt had a fun loving personality and a contagious smile. He was a proud dad and loved his children. He was always there to support his son in baseball, basketball and anything else he was doing. Matt was a huge supporter of Bath County Wildcats sports and was always willing to help the young athletes in anyway he could. He loved his mamaw Irene, papaw Herschel and his papaw Floyd. Family was important to him and he will be missed so dearly by them and many others. His memory will live on forever in the hearts of those that loved him. May they continue to share the wonderful stories and memories they have of him and comfort each other.
Matt is survived by his parents, Gary and Deb Sorrell; one son, Corbin Thomas Sorrell; one daughter, Mary Grace Brewer; one brother, Ryan Sorrell; his paternal grandfather, Floyd Thomas Sorrell; his maternal grandparents, Herschel and Irene Thornsburg.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandmother, Lodema Sorrell; his uncle, Doodle Sorrell and his best friend, Derek Corbin.
Visitation will be Tuesday, June 15 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Richardson Funeral Home.
Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, June 16 at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel at the Richardson Funeral Home with burial following in the Longview Cemetery. Reverend Johnny Baber, Reverend Sean Bailey and Brother Brock Baber will be officiating.
Pallbearers will be J.D. Hart, Andrew Thompson, Matthew Ring, Brandon Gorrell, Adam Thornsburg, Dusty Thornsburg, Tom Gerlaugh and Brock Baber.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Derick Chapman, Scotty Clark, Danny Moore, Ashley Means, Sara Workman, Jenci Caswell and Cody Dicken.
Richardson Funeral Home will be caring for all arrangements.
