Marie Oakley, age 86, of Owingsville, made heaven her home on December 23, 2020. She was born in Menifee County, to the late Roscoe and Lona Donathan Proffitt.
Marie was a faithful member of the Mudlick First Church Of God, and a founding member of the Ore Mines Church. She loved to sing, work crossword puzzles, and gardening in her flowers. Marie lived a simple life, worked hard and loved to be around people. Talking on the telephone was one of her favorite things to do, as well as being outside with her chickens.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Vernon Oakley, two daughters; Roberta Moore and Charletta Oakley. one brother, Raymond Proffitt, and two sisters; Jewell Withrow and Barbara Proffitt.
Marie is survived by her children, David Oakley (Debbie) Carolyn Gilven (Glen) and Sandy Hurst. one sister, Phyllis Carpenter. Also surviving are her grandchildren; Randy Gilven, Brian Gilven, Brad Oakley, Daniel Hurst, Charles Hurst and Dustin Hurst. Seven great-grandchildren, and a special cousin, Louise Donathan also survive.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, December 29, 2020 in the chapel of The Richardson Funeral Home, with the Reverend Mark Caldwell, and The Reverend Lowell Rice officiating. Burial will follow in the Owingsville Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers; Brad Oakley, Randy Gilven, Brian Gilven, Dustin Hurst, Charles Hurst, and John Donathan. Honorary pallbearers; Mike Amburgey, Ronnie Robinson, Jamie Cline and Junior Bailey. Visitation will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday, December 28, 2020 at The Richardson Funeral Home.
