Linda Barber Obituary

Linda Gail Barber, age 80, made heaven her home on Saturday, April 29. She was born the daughter of Harrison Otis and Ruby Everman Otis on October 8, 1942 near the banks of Slate Creek in Owingsville, Kentucky.

Linda married Roger Barber and put herself through cosmetology school while raising four children. She often told stories of "hitching" rides from the gravel roads near Hart Pike to cosmetology school. Linda opened her first beauty shop in a small garage on Wells Avenue. She owned and operated The Perfect Lady beauty salon on Main street for over 50 years. Linda retired as a beautician after 60 years of tireless dedication to beautifying others.

Linda demonstrated dedication in everything she did. She was a member of the Owingsville First Church of God where she played piano nearly every Sunday and Wednesday for 65 years. She loved her community and serving others. She was also a long time member of the Hill-N-Dale Homemakers and Owingsville Women's Club and served on the Owingsville City Council. Linda raised four children who all went on to attend college, which was one of her proudest accomplishments. Linda valued education and despite not having the opportunity to attend college herself, ensured that all of her children and grandchildren attended college. Linda was known far and wide for her kindness, hospitality, and selflessness.

Linda enjoyed collecting antiques, traveling, visiting with neighbors, going to yard sales, tending to her flower garden, and spending time with her children and grandchildren. Linda was a lifelong supporter of the Christian Social Services in Owingsville as well as the Bath County Memorial Library.

Linda truly had a passion for helping others. She always had others in mind and acted as a silent benefactor to countless individuals in the community.

She is survived by her loving children, Tony Barber, Pamela Salazar (William), David Barber (Sheila), and Brent Barber; seven grandchildren, Christopher Barber, Emily Barber, Nicholas Barber, Andrew Barber, Julian Salazar, Taylor Barber and Jacob Barber; one great granddaughter, Scarlett Tubbs; two bonus great grandchildren, Sylvia Nelson and Emmit Nelson; her life-long friend and confidant, Phyllis Conyers; two special ladies, Pam Toy and Vickie Wells; a special cousin, Glenda Otis; a host of friends.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Roger Barber; two sisters, Marjorie Otis and Sheila Otis Groves and four brothers, Hawley Lee Otis, Elza "Tippy" Otis, Wayne Otis and Jimmy Otis.
