Gracie “Grace” Downey Rogers, age 74, was born February 20th, 1952 in Mt.Sterling, Kentucky to the late Roy Downey and Ethel Sorrell Downey.
Grace passed away peacefully on April 30th after a courageous battle with cancer. She tackled her health journey with remarkable resilience and a positive attitude. Her optimism never faltered. She met each day, each challenge, with a brave face and a hopeful heart.
Grace lived a servant’s life. She lived by the philosophy that if she could not give money, she would give her time- and she did so often for a wide range of causes throughout her life. She was a dedicated volunteer who served others with a gentle, shy heart. Grace would likely be embarrassed by these compliments, as she was naturally quiet and would prefer the sidelines to being in the spotlight.
Grace was a retired employee of the Peoples Bank of Kentucky, a member of the Owingsville First Church of God and the Springfield Presbyterian Church. She loved reading books of all kinds, gardening, spending time with her family and friends and cheering on the University of Kentucky Wildcats.
Grace is survived by two children, Lorinda Jamison (Kevin) of Mt.Sterling, and Travis Rogers (Melanie) of Owingsville; Four grandchildren, Kaden, Cameron, Aunnah and Harper and one grandpup, Lucy; Four sisters, Mary Stone of Owingsville, Christine Letcher, Alice Norris and Margie Fields of Mt.Sterling and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Mike Rogers; six brothers, John Downey, Virgil Downey, Richard Downey, Taylor Downey, Clyde “Bill” Downey, and Charles Downey; one sister, Ruby Downey; and a loyal and cherished companion in her later years, Larry Simpson.
Pallbearers will be Jim Downey, Doug Downey, Howard Stone, Will Norris, Paul Letcher Jr. and Mark Fields. Honorary pallbearers will be Amos Downey, Jason Downey, Larry Wayne Downey, Richard Downey, John Rogers and Tim Welch.
