Glenn Reed Spencer, age 78, passed away on Friday, December 8, 2023 at his home in the Peeled Oak community of Bath County, Kentucky. He was born in Mt. Sterling, Kentucky on August 21, 1945 to the late Leonard and Nancy Back Spencer.
Glenn was married to his high school sweetheart, Bonnie, for 58 years. He was a graduate of Bath County High School and Lexington Barber College. He worked as a barber 58 years, most of that time with his friend and partner Joe Dicken in their barber shop in Mt. Sterling. He loved farming and grew trees, pumpkins, hay, and vegetables with his friend and brother-in-law Joe Karrick for over 40 years. Glenn served on the Bath County Soil Conservation Board and the C.C. Chenault Memorial Trust and was a member and elder of the Kendall Springs Church of Christ, where he also taught bible classes over the years.
He was devoted and dependable in every role in his life – son, husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather, brother, brother-in-law, uncle, and friend. His grandchildren were his pride and joy, and he loved and cherished his big family, his many friends, his loyal customers, and his border collies, Dolly and Pepper.
Glenn is survived by his wife Bonnie Goodpaster Spencer, his daughters Sherri Pergrem (Brent), and Glenna Steele (John) all of Peeled Oak; his son, Brian Spencer, of Versailles; four grandchildren, Spencer and Claire Pergrem and Macie and Maggie Steele of Peeled Oak; his sisters Anna Mae Hall (Forrest) of Mt. Sterling and Lucy Clayton Wilson (Jay) of Sharpsburg; his special friends Glen Thomas, Forrest Hall, and Joe Karrick; and many nieces, nephews and their children and grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Glenn was preceded in death by four brothers, Joe Spencer, Raymond Spencer, Arnold Spencer, and Emery “Bud” Spencer; four sisters, Alma Spencer Staton, Mildred Spencer Colliver, Barbara Spencer Rudd, and Emma Spencer Hall.
