Doris York, age 88, of Owingsville, passed away at St. Claire Hospital in Morehead on Monday, December 27. She was born on December 5, 1933 in Mount Sterling, Kentucky to the late Tom B. Ginter and Bettie Hatton. Doris worked at Richardson's IGA, Cowden's Manufacturing and even owned her own shoe store, York Discount Shoes. She retired from Social Services after many years. Doris was a member of the Owingsville First Church of God. She loved her family and people, she never met a stranger. Going to thrift stores to find a bargain and collecting jewelry were some things she enjoyed. Doris was a kind woman with a caring heart. She will be missed dearly.
Doris is survived by one son, Randy York and his wife, Rhonda of Preston; two daughters, Paula York and Danita Richardson of Owingsville; one grandson, Matthew Todd York and his wife Ashley of Nolanville, Texas; one great grandson, Riley Scott York of Nolanville, Texas; one sister, Lena Hawkins and her husband, George of Bethel, Kentucky; three half brothers, Tommy Ginter, David Ray Ginter of Phippsburg, Maine and Jerry Ginter of Lexington, Kentucky; several nieces, nephews, cousins and a special friend, Rita Black.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Michael Wayne York and her momma, Emily Collins.
Visitation will be Monday, January 3 from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. at the Richardson Funeral Home.
Funeral services will begin at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of the Richardson Funeral Home with Reverend Lowell Rice officiating. Burial will follow in the Owingsville Cemetery.
Due to Covid, family has requested that services be attended by family and close friends.
