Deb (Thornsburg) Sorrell

Debra Joan Thornsburg Sorrell,  aged 63, of Bethel, KY passed away on July 1, 2024 at St. Joseph Hospital in Mt. Sterling.  Deb was a cherished mother, grandmother, wife, daughter, sister, and friend who will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

Deb was born on August 22, 1960 in Carlisle, KY to Herschel & Irene Porter Thornsburg.  She was a member of the Bethel Christian Church.  Throughout her career, she worked as a phlebotomist at Johnson Mathers Hospital in Carlisle, KY for nearly 25 years.  She then worked 10 years for Quest Diagnostic at the Community Family Clinic in Owingsville. 

She is survived by her husband of 40 years, Gary Sorrell, parents, one brother, Steven (Cheryl) Thornsburg, grandchildren Gracie Brewer & Corbin Sorrell, bonus daughter, Ashlea (Jason) Hutchison, “The Kids” - nephews Adam & Dusty Thornsburg & niece Margo Thornsburg Gibson, niece Patty Sorrell, sister-in-law Cheryl Sorrell, and numerous close family members, and friends.

Deb was preceded in death by her sister Tammy Sue Thornsburg, two sons Matthew Thomas Sorrell & Ryan Kevin Sorrell, maternal grandparents Ivan & Carrie Porter, paternal grandparents Van & Maggie Thornsburg, mother & father-in-law Floyd & Lodema Sorrell, and brother-in-law Edward “Doodle” Sorrell,

Deb had a passion for baseball & music.  She never missed cheering on her grandson at his ball games.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 3 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Richardson Funeral Home. 

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 4 at 12:00 p.m. at the Bethel Christian Church with Ike Francis, Johnny Baber and Brock Baber officiating. Burial will follow in Longview Cemetery. 

Active pallbearers will be Adam Thornsburg, Dusty Thornsburg, Ethan Gibson, Lucas St. John, Braxton Snedegar, Darrell Lykes, Jayce Smith and Patrick Armitage. 

Honorary pallbearers will be Jacki Byrd, Ashlea Hutchison, Margo Gibson, Glenda Otis, Kay Shankland, Ashley Thornsburg,  Andrea Thornsburg, Paula Pfister, Kathy Harris, Micah Gibson, Jacky Watson, Donna Kay Hedges, Pam Guy and Becky Davis.

In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to a church of your choice in memory of Deb.
