Charles Duty Given

Charles Duty Given, age 91, of Sharpsburg passed away on Wednesday, October 18, 2023. He was born on October 15, 1932 in Bath County to Charles Rogers Given and Anna Elizabeth Riggle Given. He was a retired banker, farmer and a member of the Sharpsburg Christian Church, where he served as an elder.

In addition to his parents, Charles Duty was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Julianne Hazelrigg Given; one daughter, Ann Duty Payne; one brother, John William (Billy) Given and one sister, Mary Frances Williams. 

He is survived by two daughters, Charlene Tackett (Laddie) of Louisville; Mary Lyle Boone (John) of Lancaster, Ohio; one son, James Walter Given of Sharpsburg; one son in law, Thomas Payne of Paris; eight grandchildren, Joe Tackett, Julie Tackett, Emily Given, Clark Given (Emily), Paul Davis Given (Emily), Katie Boone, J. Cawood Boone and Caroline Payne; eight great grandchildren, Lily, Tessa and Archer Tackett, Ella Tackett, Harper and Hadley Given, Alex and Andy Given.

Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, October 21 at the Sharpsburg Christian Church with burial following in the Crown Hill Cemetery. Friends may visit beginning at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday.

Active pallbearers will be Clark Given, P.D. Given, Joe Tackett, Cawood Boone, Walter Shrout, Doug Toy and Barry Toy.
