Barbara Ann Bradley Pettit 68, of Johnson School Rd. Hillsboro KY, passed away Wednesday May 3rd at her home surrounded by her family after a long battle with colon cancer.
Born March 17th 1955 in Mt. Sterling, Kentucky, she was the daughter of the late Sterling and Audra Thompson Bradley of Owingsville.
She graduated from Bath County High School in 1973 and worked five years for Stella Byron at Byron's Department Store until the birth of her son, Brad.
On September 19th 1975, she married her husband, L.D. Pettit. In April of 1979 they started Pettit Dairy, which they have operated for the last 45 years along with their children, Brad and Kelly. Their years together on the farm taught their kids the value of hard work and she and L.D. never let them forget that you can start with nothing and still make it just like they did. Barbara worked along side her husband milking, feeding and raising baby calves. She took a lot of pride in her calves and raised hundreds of them over the years.
Barbara loved being outside and loved to garden both with flowers and vegetables. She loved canning vegetables from her garden and picking blackberries and making various jams and jellies throughout the year. She was a wonderful cook, spoiling her family with two homecooked meals each day. She was well known in the community for her delicious Butterscotch pies, which she made for numerous birthdays and events.
She is survived by her husband of 47 years, L.D. Pettit of Hillsboro; One son, Brad Pettit of Flemingsburg and one daughter, Kelly Pettit of Hillsboro. Two sisters, Kitty (Monty) Jent of Hillsboro and Betty Crase of Florence, Kentucky. One granddaughter, Laura Ann Pettit of Flemingsburg and one very special great niece, Sydney Carol Duncan of Hillsboro and a special friend who took her to countless doctor's appointments, Brian Duncan of Hillsboro. She's also survived by her beloved Australian Shepherd, Harley.
Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, John and Myrtle Thompson and paternal grandparents, Sam and Ida Bradley and one very special niece, Jessica Jent Moran.
Barbara was of the Christian faith. She was a hard worker, a wonderful sister, friend and neighbor and the best wife and mother a husband, son and daughter could ask for. She will be greatly missed.
