Artie (Turner) Smoot

Artie Turner Smoot, of Owingsville KY, passed away Tuesday, March 17, 2020 at the age of 82.  She was the daughter of the late Vearl Turner and Lena Stewart Turner.  Artie was a well-known local businesswoman, being the owner and proprietor of Arties Antiques for many years.  She was a member of the Owingsville Church of Christ, and was active in many local civic organizations.  She was one of the founders of the first school for special needs children in the county.  She was loved by her family, and was a fixture at the local school and sporting events cheering on her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, as well as her beloved Kentucky Wildcats. 

She is survived by her husband, Ewell “Jack” Smoot of Owingsville, two daughters:  Bobbie Jean (Tom) Risner of Jeffersonville Ky., Tina (Ralph) Taylor of Owingsville KY, and a son: Shane (Melissa) Smoot of Owingsville Ky. 

She also survived by six grandchildren, Chip (Jennifer) Hart of Owingsville Ky, Jonathan (Annie) Hart of Owingsville KY, Joshua Risner of Jeffersonville Ky, Amber (Ben) Moore of South Shore Ky, Hannah Smoot of Lexington Ky, and Cooper Smoot of Owingsville Ky.  She is also survived by a brother, Buster (Janice) Turner of Owingsville. 

She was preceded in death by her parents, Vearl Turner and Lena Stewart Turner, and a grandson, Seth Thomas Risner.

A private graveside service will be held. The family will announce a memorial service at a later date. 

Reverend Alton Norman will be officiating.  Bobby Jones and  Johnny Botts will also share memories and words of condolence.
