Roosevelt “Sonny” Swartz Jr. passed away February 25, 2019 at the age of 80. He was born March 12, 1938 in Bath County to the late Roosevelt Swartz and Grace Shultz Swartz. Sonny married Barbara Harris Swartz, the love of his life, on July 4, 1959. They were married for 59 years and together raised five children. Sonny was a retired superintendent from Harper Construction. He was the owner of Swartz Mowing Inc. Sonny is a member of the Mudlick Church of God and a Kentucky Colonel. He also was a lifelong farmer and avid cattleman. He was a strong pillar in this community and helped many people throughout the years. He was always willing to help those in need but was very humble in doing so. He will be greatly missed by all that knew and loved him. He will live on forever in the hearts of his family and friends.
He is survived by his loving wife, Barbara Harris Swartz; Five children, Kim (Mark) Karrick of Preston; Cary (Wanda) Swartz, Sabrina (Rob) Crouch , Neal (Kristi ) Swartz and Kyle (Leighanna) Swartz all of Olympia; 15 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; 2 brothers, Carol Swartz of Louisville and Eugene “Peanut” Swartz of Olympia; Several sisters in law, one brother in law, aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and many friends also survive.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Roosevelt and Grace Shultz Swartz; 9 siblings, Emily Swartz, Marvin Swartz, Donnie Swartz, Bonnie Spencer, Dan Swartz, Milton “Bud” Swartz, Richard Swartz, Sam Swartz and Margaret “Sissy” Armitage.
Visitation will be Wednesday from 3-8 p.m. at the Mudlick Church of God.
Funeral Services will be Thursday at 1:00 p.m. at the Mudlick Church of God. Burial will follow in Sonny's Cemetery.
Reverend Lowell Rice and Reverend Mark Caldwell will be officiating.
In lieu of monetary gifts, donations can be made to Camp Lyons or the Backpack program.
