Marjorie Alice Purvis, 96, of Sharpsburg passed away on Monday, January 30, 2017 after a brief illness. She was born in Salt Lick on June 22, 1920 to the late John Ernest Harper and Nancy Hawkins Harper. She was a Homemaker and Farmer, the widow of the late Archie C. Purvis. Best described by Proverbs 31, she was the essence of the Virtuous Woman. She was very interested in current events, but also loved to cook and quilt. She was considered a master quilter and had suitcases and trunks full of quilt top she had made. Above all else she was dedicated to her family, working side by side for many years with her husband on their farm and loving and nurturing her five children.
She is survived by three sons John Everett Purvis (Martha) of Elkhart, Indiana, James Norman Purvis (Rita) of Elkhart, Indiana, William Morton Purvis of Sharpsburg; two daughters; Nancy Viola VanOrder of Mount Sterling, and Barbara Lynn Purvis Porter of Lexington; two brothers Russell Harper and Kenneth Harper; one sister Gladys Barbee. She is also survived by nine grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren.
In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by three brothers Floyd Harper, Jimmy Harper and John Ernest Harper, Jr. one sister Sadie Cassity; one daughter-in-law Peggy Purvis and one son-in-law Ralph VanOrder. She is also preceded in death by one grandchild and two great-grandchrildren.
Friends may call from 12-2 p.m. Friday, February 3, 2017 at Richardson Funeral Home. Services to follow at 2 p.m. with the Reverend Chris Bailey officiating. Burial will be in the Longview Cemetery in Bethel.
