Kerry "Steve" Brewer

July 29, 1954 ~ December 28, 2016 (age 62) 62 Years Old

Kerry "Steve" Brewer, age 62, passed away after a long illness on Wednesday December 28, 2016. He has left to cherish his memory, his wife Sharon Robinson Brewer. He was born July 29, 1954 to the late Andrew Jackson Brewer and Reba Fox Brewer. He was a Bath County School System employee, formerly an employee of Proctor and Gamble, Pioneer Credit, Lockheed Martin, and Richardson Funeral Home, but among his chief exploits he was known as one of the greatest, if not "The Greatest" baseball pitcher to ever come out of Bath County. He played baseball for Bath County High School and held several school records for a lengthy period of time. In a 1972 high school game he pitched a shut out game against Lexington Lafayette High School. He also played for Morehead State University and played in the minor leagues for a time where he tried out for the Kansas City Royals where he had a two-hit game clocking a 93 mph fast ball. He also negotiated with the St. Louis Cardinals, and tried out with the Pittsburg Pirates. Upon returning to Bath County he played for many years for the American Legion Ball Team under Coach Don Hardin. Coach Wendell Moore described him as, "...a hard throwing right hander, who had a competitive take no prisoner attitude when he was on the mound."

In addition to his beloved wife, Sharon Brewer, he is survived by his daughter Kerri Brewer of Owingsville, Kentucky and a step-daughter, Stephanie Jones of Owingsville, Kentucky.  He is also survivied by two brothers, Larry (Louise) Brewer of Dry Ridge and Barry (Jo) Brewer of Salt Lick, Kentucky.  Two grand-daughters, Lilly Dickerson and Makennah Brewer also survive.

He was preceded in death by his parents Andrew Jackson Brewer and Reba Fox Brewer.  He was also preceded in death by his brother, Leonard Ray Brewer.
