Jimmie W. Martin, Sr., age 82, passed away after an extended illness on Tuesday December 5, 2017. He was born in Bath County on February 23, 1935 to the late Everett "Ed" Martin and Sallie Jones Martin. He was a long time employee of AO Smith in Mt. Sterling, but also worked for a time at the Louisville Slugger factory. He has an affinity for music, often spending lazy afternoons on his farm picking around on the guitar. It was said that he had the ability to play any tune by ear. He was a member of the Sharpsburg Volunteer Fire Department. He also enjoyed gardening, always raising a large garden so that he had plenty saved back for the winter and plenty more to share with each of his neighbors who were an adopted and extended family to him.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 62 years Wanda Nell Martin and his son Jimmie W. Martin, Jr. both of Sharpsburg. He is also survived by a very large extended family of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, neighbors and friends too numerous to mention.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a daughter Wanda Sue Martin; a brother Bruce Martin and a sister Mary Miller.

Friends may visit from 12-2 p.m. Friday at Richardson Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Friday with Reverend Gary Boyd officiating. Burial will follow in the Longview Cemetery.
